THIS photograph was taken in February 1929 and shows a very familiar street in Bolton town centre.

It is, of course, Knowsley Street, and the location is easily recognisable to anyone familiar with the town.

We can see the Market Hall on the right and the buildings on the left look very similar even today.

The church is visible in the background.

But what had happened on the right hand side?

It looks as if there has been some sort of collapse or demolition but what was this building?

Was it part of the Market Hall or a building in its own right?

Do you have any information about this and can you help solve the mystery?

If so do get in touch with Gayle McBain on 01204 537269 or email gayle.mcbain@nqnw.co.uk with any information you may have about this particular event.

It looks as if it was unexpected as we can see a police officer taking a look at the building in the middle of hte picture.

A horse and cart can be seen on the opposite side of the road and there are plenty of people milling about in Knowsley Street but what was going on?
