HERE we see the end of the road for the former Crosses and Heatons mills at Lostock Junction.

There would have been some sadness in March 1973 when the mills were demolished to make way for housing development. It was the end of an era.

The big demolition job had started in January and was due to go on until around September of that year.

Crosses and Heatons was once one of the giants of the Lancashire cotton industry but closed in 1971 and the land was then sold for development.

Northern Developments (Holdings) Limited of Blackburn were given permission by Bolton Town Council to build a total of 90 homes on the site and on a small piece of grass land to the south of Heaton House.

This once magnificent building would have been the work place of many workers in the local area but as the mill industry started to decline so they would lose their jobs and livelihoods.
