DISNEY ON ICE WORLDS OF ENCHANTMENT

Manchester Arena

Until Sunday

THE latest instalment of Disney on Ice skated into Manchester tonight – with two extra special princesses in the line-up.

Unless you have been living under a snow-covered rock for the past couple of years, chances are you have heard of the record-breaking, global smash Frozen.

This is the first time Anna and Elsa have appeared in a show at Manchester Arena and a sea of wannabe princesses dressed as the pair – as well as the odd snowman Olaf here and there - were giddy with excitement.

The show kicked off with quite a lengthy sequence from Toy Story 3, a fab family film which sees Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the gang find themselves in a spot of bother as their beloved owner Andy heads off for college.

As you would imagine from Disney, the costumes are spot on and the choreography is slick, apart from a couple of minor tumbles.

Next, Ariel and her fishy friends transport us to a world under the sea where the Little Mermaid is fascinated with life on land.

Bubbles rain down and the enchanting Part of Your World is played out to perfection before the interval.

A host of famous faces were in the audience for opening night, including Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley, from Walkden, and The Real Housewives of Cheshire’s Dawn Ward, who grew up in Deane.

After the interval was a short segment from Cars before the Frozen bunch took to the ice.

For the First Time in Forever, Love is an Open Door and – of course – Let it Go – put smiles on the faces of audience members young and not so young.

Having seen a number of previous Disney on Ice shows, I felt this one was lacking a big spectacle or dazzling finale.

But I doubt the little ones, gazing at the snow falling from above and going home with happy memories and merchandise galore, would agree with me.

You have until Sunday to take your little princes and princesses to see the show.
