ANTHONY Stirling caused the upset of the semi-finals of the Bolton Golf Association Championships at Turton.
The Harwood golfer defeated reigning champion Liam Ball on the first sudden death hole after the pair had been all square after the 15th.
He will face Gareth Hastie in the final and the Bolton golfer will be looking to bring home the title for the fifth time after his birdie on the 17th saw him claim the honours 3&1 against Turton’s Aaron Gandy in the other semi-final.
A victory for Hastie today would move him level with Howard Broadbent in the competition’s hall of fame of winners.
On Tuesday, Stirling booked his place in the last four of the competition after a 1-up win against Rob Taylor and it was the same scoreline when Hastie took the honours against Josh Ashton.
Also earlier in the competition Ball defeated Aaron Watkinson 6&5 while Gandy won 2&1 against Matthew Smith.
