A FIRE ripped through a bungalow in Boothstown.

The property, in Leigh Road, has been badly damaged in the blaze and has lost its roof.

Firefighters from Farnworth were called to the address shortly after 1am on Monday.

It was initially thought that the property was a barn but it turned out to be a detached bungalow – however no one was in there at the time.

Fire investigation team will be carrying out checks on the building throughout the day to see whether the building is safe.

Crew manager Carl Gleaves said: β€œThe job is still ongoing and the building will be the subject of an investigation to find out the cause of the fire and whether the building is safe.”
