CHRIST Church Ainsworth's football team made history for the school when they won the Bury Primary Schools Cup for the first time.
They followed up a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bury Grammar School in the semi-final by beating St Andrew's, Ramsbottom 5-1 in the final at Elton.
Goals from Harry Mason (2), Andrew Bonnar, Chris Wood and an own goal sealed the victory and made it a special day for the Ainsworth head teacher, David Gerrard.
He said: "As secretary of the Bury Primary Schools football committee, I've refereed the final every year but two for the last 23 years.
"The last time I missed it was in 1990 when I was at Lowercroft and they were in the final. I wasn't allowed to ref it this year because my school was in the final, but I'm absolutely delighted because it's a great day for the Christ Church Ainsworth football team."
