BREIGHTMET United still retain hope of Premiership football next season after a 3-1 victory over Whitworth Valley at Moss Park.

Whitworth had a great chance to take the lead on 15 minutes when Gary McShane conceded a penalty, but United goalkeeper Mick Aldred saved the spot-kick.

The hosts made Valley pay for their miss when Ben Wells put United in front at the break. And McShane made up for his earlier error when he fired home Breightmet's second.

Whitworth were awarded a second penalty after Phil Regan's infringement. Again Aldred made a fine save but, from the resulting corner, the visitors pulled one back.

The hosts made sure of the points when Mark Grundy's pin-point cross picked out Dean Banks to head home in the final minute.

A depleted Bolton Wyresdale secured an impressive 3-1 win at Hesketh despite missing five regular players.

The visitors dominated the first half, hitting the woodwork three times, but sloppy passing allowed the home side to take the lead.

Kris Lord levelled matters with a superb long-range free-kick, though Bolton were indebted to goalkeeper Graham Parr for several fine saves after the break.

Wyresdale continued to make chances and hit the frame of the goal two more times before taking the lead from a Steve Collier goal.

David Liversedge then missed a penalty, but later made amends when he struck Wyresdale's third goal to wrap up the points.

Atherton Town slipped to a 1-0 defeat - their first since Christmas - after conceding a last-gasp free-kick against Stockport Georgians.

Town's unbeaten run had seen them climb to sixth in the Manchester League Premier Division table and they certainly did enough against third-placed Stockport to have taken something from the game.

Town's reserves suffered cup heartache when they lost 1-0 against Salford Victoria in the semi-final.

Bolton County produced a fighting display to defeat Ulverston 3-2.

Tom Walsh put the hosts in the lead, before Ulverston equalised 10 minutes before the break.

The visitors went ahead on the hour mark but Walsh's second levelled matters again. And Dean Hallows headed home the winner from debutant Alex Machell's superb cross with five minutes left.
