AMIR Khan was escorted out of a Liverpool boxing venue for the second year running after members of the crowd hurled racist abuse at him.

The Bolton Olympic silver medallist had been watching his 15-year-old brother Haroon lose on a controversial points decision in the North West final of the ABA Junior championships, when a section of the crowd began to shout obscenities.

Twelve months ago the 20-year-old suffered a similar reaction after his brother beat the home-town boxer, but had decided to attend the venue again without security in an effort not to inflame the situation.

Amir's business manager Asif Vali said they were forced to flee Everton Park Sports Centre at the end of the fight after being taunted by a small section of the crowd.

He added: "We talked about the security issue and thought it best for Amir to go without any, but unfortunately it happened again. It is very threatening and I physically escorted Amir out with about 30 people behind us.

"It did get verbal and a little bit frightening. I personally felt uncomfortable being in an area where I felt victimised and I felt there was a racist element in their taunts.

"It is not fair being intimidated like that and I will be contacting the ABA to discuss the matter. Amir does a lot of work promoting the ABA and he does not deserve to be treated this way.

"As for Haroon, it appears our only option may be for him not to box in Liverpool again, even if it is a championship event."
