LEIGH RMI'S hopes of avoiding relegation were severely dented when Farsley grabbed an injury-time equaliser.

The Railwaymen looked to have grabbed three valuable points against the play-off hopefuls, only to be denied in cruel fashion.

The draw leaves them in a relegation spot and they desperately need a win at bottom club Lancaster City tomorrow if they are to have a realistic chance of avoiding the drop.

Manager Stuart Humphreys remains upbeat, however, despite the injury-time disappointment.

He said: "I have got to be pleased with the performance, particularly in the second-half, which we dominated and scored a good goal."

RMI took the lead with just eight minutes remaining after terrific work from left back Owen Roberts, who ran two thirds of the length of the pitch before he delivered a perfect cross that left Chris Simm a simple tap in at the back post.

Only moments before the goal Leigh had a scare at the other end when Farsley centre half Ryan Crossley was left unmarked in the penalty area, only for the ball to bounce luckily in to the hands of RMI goalkeeper John Lamb after a Crossley header had thumped against the right hand post.

Chances were few and far between although Farsley had a gilt-edged opportunity within the first few minutes of the game when a left wing cross found Ryan Sugden at the back post, only for the Villagers' striker to fire over the crossbar with the goal gaping in front of him.

RMI's first real chance came in the second half when Chris Simm laid on a smart pass to Hugh McAuley, but the midfielder's shot flew just wide of the post.

With Steve Brockley excellent at centre back, it seemed as though Leigh were heading for a vital three points, only for their luck to desert them in the fifth minute of time added on when a bobbling long ball deceived the RMI defence and substitute Damian Reeves squeezed the ball home.
