A BABY boy seriously burned when he stumbled into a gas fire remains in a critical, but stable, condition in hospital.
Hamzah Darvesh, aged 14 months, suffered serious burns on Thursday morning when his clothes caught fire after he fell against a fire in his Wolfenden Street, Halliwell, home.
His mother Sufaiya Hamzah, aged 38, was alerted by a smoke alarm and firefighters used specialist burns dressings to treat Hamzah at the scene.
He underwent emergency surgery at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, Pendlebury, on Thursday and surgeons operated a second time yesterday. He remains in the hospital's burns unit.
Hamzah's uncle, Osman Ali, said: "He's a little better but we'll have to wait and see. We just hope and pray everything goes well.
"The family came home for Friday prayer but my sister has stayed at the hospital."
Mr Ali is looking after the family's three other children Yasin, aged 13, Naeem, aged 10, and Nazira, aged eight.
Police say there was nothing suspicious about the incident and that the gas fire was not faulty.
