TURTON Ladies played a charity stableford to commemorate 100 years of the Bolton and district annual charity golf event, known as the Golf Cot.
After the action, there was an informal party to celebrate the 95th birthday of their oldest playing member, Iolanda (Yo) Cottrell.
Yo only joined Turton as a full playing member in 2012 when she moved from her home on the Wirral to live in Edgworth, with her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Harry Rothwell.
Yo started playing golf in her 40s when she joined Wallasey Golf Club where her husband was a member.
She then joined Wirral Ladies where she played for over 40 years prior to moving to Turton.
Although she has Alzheimers, Yo still manages to take part in most of the activities of Turton Ladies' Section.
She still plays in most Stableford competitions, albeit with a buggy, and attends most of the Ladies' social events.
Following a collection amongst the lady members, Yo was presented with an engraved whiskey tumbler and accorded the privilege of being allowed to keep it behind the bar so that she can use it for her regular post match drink.
Susan said: "My mother had been overwhelmed by all the cards and good wishes for her birthday, but they were both truly grateful for the outstanding kindness, friendliness and understanding shown to them on an ongoing basis since Yo joined Turton.
"Without realising it, perhaps, the ladies of Turton are true Dementia Friends."
