EDGWORTH Cricket Club have resigned from the Bolton Association.
The club's decision was made public today and the club will leave at the end of the current season.
It is unknown which league they will join next season.
The club will make an announcement on their future destination in the next few weeks.
It looks certain to be either the new Greater Manchester League or an expanded Bolton Cricket League.
The Bolton League clubs are holding a vote on Monday, June 8 on whether to expand to two divisions and invite new clubs to join, and many clubs are known to be holding fire on deciding their future destinations until after that meeting.
Edgworth are the fourth Bolton Association club to announce their resignation from the league, following Swinton Moorside, Astley and Tyldesley and Winton who have all applied to join the GMCL.
Walshaw's players have voted to go to GMCL and their committee are yet to announce the club's decision.
Bury are also known to be supporters of a move to the GMCL and are expected to make a decision this week.
If they both decide to leave it would reduce the BDCL by six clubs.
That is two fewer than was expected before its clubs began to hold meetings on the issue so it would be no surprise if two more left.
None of the 10 who were believed to be committed to the BDCL have yet resigned.
Edgworth have been members of the Association since 1902 with a four-year break between 1915 and 1919.
Their resignation letter, which was made public on Twitter this morning, said: "The club has been a longstanding and proud member of the Association as well as a successful participant, winning the league championship on 12 separate occasions and the Cross Cup seven times.
"After significant deliberations at the club, both amongst the playing and social members, the decision to resign was made.
"That is not a reflection upon those individuals who have given their time generously in order to bring about the object of the Association and all at the club are grateful to the current committee and all the past committees, each of which have provided dedicated service to the Association and its members."
