IS YOUR dog a born performer . . . or perhaps a drama queen?

If so, you can enter your pet in an X Factor-style audition for a production of Annie.

Children from Horwich Amateur Operatics and Dramatics Society have been left in the lurch after the dog lined up for the role of Sandy dropped out.

The cast is now looking for a replacement and will be holding auditions over the coming weeks.

The ideal dog will be of any breed, medium build, well trained and not frightened of crowds, loud music and bright lights.

It must also be friendly and good with children and, of course, have the X factor.

In return, the cast promises to give it endless fuss and doggie treats.

Andrew Platt, publicity officer for the production, said: "This is a genuinely urgent need. We need to track down a suitable dog as soon as possible. We have had a dog lined up for months, but it has suddenly had to drop out, which has left us with a vital role unfilled for the production in May.

"It will be difficult to find the perfect dog, so we will be holding auditions to see how they adapt to the stage."

The musical is about 11-year-old orphan Annie - played by Abigail Roberts from Adlington - who runs away to try to find her parents. Her dog, Sandy, accompanies her in several scenes.

Mr Platt said: "The scene where Annie sings Tomorrow to the dog is very emotional - it has made people cry - so it is important to get the right pet."

The audition nights will be announced when a shortlist of applicants has been compiled. To involve your dog, contact Matthew Kellie on 01257 481068.
