FLIXTON knocked Atherton out of the Bolton Association Cross Cup for the second successive season, writes Mikael McKenzie.
Last year’s quarter-final tie was repeated in this term’s preliminary round, with Flixton running out eight-wicket victors.
Both sides went into the clash having won both of their opening two games of the season and the battling line ups continued their league form scoring high.
Dale Tyrer fell four short of his half-century and Callum Barlow (32), Ian Nuttall (28) and Paul Walsh (24) all chipped in as Atherton posted 184-7. Prenelan Subrayen was the most notable bowler taking 4-25.
Opening duo Luke Perry (72) and Aiden Holmes (31) blasted their way to a 100 partnership as last year’s league champions homed in on victory.
Ashley Perry added 40 runs and Subrayen turned his hand batting to score 25 and secure his side the win.
Flixton now face a trip to Daisy Hill in the next round, which is due to be played on May 31.
The other tie of the day between Blackrod and Worsley was abandoned.
