RAIN caused havoc across the Bolton League and Association on Saturday as only two games survived the downpour.
Adlington’s home clash with Golborne was reduced to 24 overs, and it looked as though they would not even see them out as Jack Shovelton took 3-43 as the visitors were stumped on 68-5.
But then Waqas Tahir (47) and Tom Pantak (19) came to the crease to boost the score and post 156-7.
In response the hosts came firing out of the blocks with Simon Trim (26), Iain Critchley (22) and Stewart Plowes (23) all adding to Majid Majeed’s 45 to record a health score of 132-3.
And as the overs were running out the batters followed suit in their desperation to get the pivotal runs, suffering two run outs and Tahir bowled two wickets to ensure Adlington recorded a six-run defeat, finishing on 150-8.
Kyle Humphrys scored 82 as he led Winton to a 79-run victory over Standish in a 30-over game.
Brett Cox hit 45 not out as Winton opened the batting with 202-5. Sam Heeley was the most notable bowler taking 2-48.
Nick Smith attempted a fightback for Standish as he scored 36 – but the day belonged to Will Driver whose seven-wicket haul for only 33 runs secured an emphatic victory.
Heaton were the only side to get on the scoreboard in the Bolton League, but after scoring 18-0 their game against Kearsley was abandoned.
The re-arranged date for all of the Bolton Association abandoned fixtures is set to be Sunday, May 17.
Results: Adlington 150-8 Golborne 156-7, Golborne won by six runs; Standish 123 Winton 202-5, Winton won by 79 runs.
All Bolton League games were abandoned.
