RADCLIFFE AC runner Simon Bruton showed his superb form when he took 16th place out of 3,450 competitors in the Wilmslow Half Marathon.
Simon stormed round the popular course in 1hr 12mins 55secs, putting himself at the top of the nine-strong Radcliffe contingent taking part.
Shaun Layton (V45), getting himself in shape for the London Marathon, ran 1.32.27 and came in 384th place. Paula Abernethy (V40) did a fine run in 1.43.9 and was 948th, five minutes ahead of Jimmy Sutcliffe (V40) and Yasmin Parapia, who ran 1.48.47 and 1.48.48. Next in was Iain Harris (V55) who clocked 1 59.10,followed by newcomer Rachael Stoney in a creditable 2.02.21. Tony McGlynn (V45), who has been battling with injury was glad to complete the event in 2.05.01 and Denise Sutcliffe (V45) ran 2.11.31.
On Tuesday night, 15 members took to the hills in perfect conditions for the Liver Hill Fell Race at Rawtenstall. It was a close run thing, with an improving Peter Potter clocking 40mins 55 secs, and Peter McNulty (V50) running 40 57. Anna Lupton finished among the top women in 41mins. Marcel Ellison ran 43.20, Shaun Layton (V45) 43.46, Helen Robson 45.48, John Young (V55) 45.50, Dave Bartlett 46.16, Anne Marie Rampley (V40) with 47.39, Mark Cartwright 48.18, Vince Ashton 49.29, Mark Emmott getting back after injury ran 49.32, Sheila McNulty (V60) 52.45, and trying out their first fell race Rachael Stoney and Naomi Page ran 53.05 and 53.07.
