THERE were runs galore as Swinton faced off against Bury in the Bolton Association on Saturday.
James Wade (56), David Hatley (40) and Jonny Herreran (40) all led with the bat as Swinton racked up a massive 252-7 with Matt Smalley attempting to limit the damage with 4-75.
And what looked likely to be a difficult comeback turned substantially worse when Matt Norvall dismissed both of Bury’s opening batsmen for 33.
But once professional Ashen Silva partnered captain Sean Gibson at the crease the improbable started to look possible.
Silva smashed his way to 106 not out and Gibson went one better scoring 115 not out to claim a memorable eight-wicket victory.
Elsewhere, Thusendra de Zoysa scored 58 as Blackrod defeated Winton by 90 runs.
Simon Brittain (3-37) and Michael Seenan (3-41) attempted to limit the Vicarage Road side but Joe Speak came in late to snatch 46 and push the total to 191 all out.
Seenan top scored for the visitors with 19 but the bowling of Steven Ashworth, who took 6-29 in 10 overs, secured the victory.
Majid Majeed led Adlington to victory with the bat – scoring 63 not out in a five-wicket victory over Darcy Lever.
Nick Fawcett was the highest scorer with 42 as Darcy Lever posted 111 all out.
But it was Majeed who was the star of the show as he racked up over half of Adlington’s 114-5 total.
Lostock recorded an emphatic home win against Daisy Hill by seven wickets.
Stephen Hodgkinson scored 32 as the visitors struggled to get out of first gear posting 134-9, which was mainly down to the bowling of David Flanagan (4-43) and Simon Hanson (4-34) – with wicketkeeper Steven Hood catching four.
And in response Matthew Leach struck eight fours on his way to 64, and Hanson finished the game on 43 not out as Lostock had seven wickets to spare.
Callum Barlow fell 14 runs short of his century as Atherton emerged victorious against Walshaw.
Barlow scored 86 and was joined by Jamar Griffith (31) and Dale Tyrer (30) in setting a 211-4 target. Liam Riley was the most notable bowler taking 4-78.
Tom Murphy (31) top-scored for Walshaw as their response was brushed aside by brilliant bowling from Harry McManus (3-37) and Josh Grilluley (3-46), finishing on 158-9.
Nick Smith’s 83 not out helped Standish storm to an eight-wicket victory over Golborne.
Rizwan Hussain (38) and Jake Waterworth (36) helped Golborne post 186.
Captain Sam Heeley was the standout bowler, taking 5-66, before turning his hand to the bat where he scored 60 on a very comfortable afternoon.
Reigning champions Flixton recorded back-to-back wins after defeating Worsley by 36 runs.
The title holders opened the batting with Luke Perry hitting 41 and Prenelan Subruyen 53.
Schaughn Van Greunen bowled 5-64 as he attempted to limit the scoring but Shay Parkinson came to the crease at number five and scored 55 to post 217-8.
Danny Mcewan opened for Worsley with 78 before Michael Old added 38, but they fell just short due to the bowling of Subruyen, who took 4-52.
Astley and Tyldesley recorded a home win against Edgworth by three wickets.
Brett Ernst (52), Nick Kernick (67) and Guy Haynes (31) all scored high as the visitors set a total of 238-8.
Jimmy Cutt was the most notable bowler taking 3-52 in eight overs.
But A&T responded with a bang as opener Cutt smashed 40 and Travis Wordsworth hit 82 on their way to a finish of 241-7 – Josh Fallows bowling 4-34 in nine overs, including two maidens.
Little Hulton retained their 100 per cent start to the new season after defeating Westleigh by 10 runs.
Nekoli Parris scored 72 and Mark Penny struck 68 as Little Hulton built a strong total of 24-7.
Toby Leeds hit a huge 96 runs but it was not enough to cut the deficit as they fell at 230 all out.
