A UNIT which supports witnesses who testify in court is celebrating its success.
Bolton Witness Care Unit, which was set up in July, 2005, ensures victims and witnesses are kept fully informed of the progress of their case and that they get practical help with issues such as childcare and transport.
The unit also helps court witnesses to seek emotional support.
In two years it has increased the percentage of witnesses who testify, from 88 to 91 per cent.
The unit is based at Bolton's new police headquarters and brings specialist staff together from Greater Manchester Police and the Crown Prosecution Service.
Chief Supt Dave Lea, head of Bolton Police, said: "We understand that being a witness in court can be difficult on a practical and emotional level.
"Thanks to the good work of the staff in the unit, we are able to help resolve those problems and provide support to those that need it so we can bring justice to the people of Bolton."
