Westhoughton Lions U-13s 30 Orrell St James U-13s 32 The Lions showed grit and determination in a hard-fought match.
Joe Jones scored his first try while further scores came from Jack McLeish, Ben Carter and Peter Wright.
When Orrell brought on an extra player in the second-half, the Lions upped their game and rose to the challenge and the final score was a narrow defeat for the hosts.
Lions Under-11s, meanwhile, were beaten 24-18 by Latchford Albion. They were hit by an early injury to prop Dean Todd, but sportingly Latchford loaned Lions two of their players and a fine game took place. Westhoughton's tries came from Danny Harrison and Patrick O'Brien The Under-10s entertained Wigan St Judes who won 28-12. The Lions were 18 points down in the first 10 minutes but hit back with two tries from Aidan Mann.
l At the Girls Rugby League Festival at Leyland, Leigh East and Westhoughton Lionesses Under-14s combined to play four thrilling games full of fun, skill and determination.
They overcame the odds by winning two games and drew the others, despite tough opposition.
The Under-12s put in a strong performance to give the Lionesses their first ever trophy.
Players from Chorley, Cumbria and Warrington combined over four games to score 24 tries, 14 from the Lionesses.
