A BOLTON busker's dream of hearing his song played at the Reebok Stadium is about to come true.
Singer-songwriter Nick Bold's anthem, Bolton Town, has attracted so many hits on The Bolton News website that organisers at The Reebok have bowed to public pressure and agreed to play the song and video on the big screen at half-time during Saturday's Wanderers match against Sheffield United.
The toe-tapping tune has also been released as a ringtone with profits going to The Bolton News' Garden of Tranquillity appeal, in aid of Bolton Hospice.
The song, which Nick performs with bandmate Linda Jennings, pays tribute to many of Bolton's heroes, past and present, including Fred Dibnah, Nat Lofthouse and Peter Kay, as well as the ordinary people who make the town great.
Wanderers' promotions manager Andrew Dean said: "We saw all the comments on the website and thought the song and video would make great half-time entertainment.
"Unfortunately, Nick and Linda won't be able to play live at the ground for logistical and health and safety reasons but they'll be here on the day and our announcer will introduce them to the crowd.
"It will be great if we could get everyone singing along and the more people we get downloading the ringtone, the more money we'll raise for charity."
Nick, who has toured with rock legends Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin and recorded an album with Roger Taylor from Queen, said: "It's a dream come true for me to have one of my songs played at the Reebok on a match day.
"I wrote the song for a bit of fun, so I've been absolutely amazed by the response.
"If it puts a smile on people's faces and we raise some money for charity, then I've done my job."
