THE railway has played a huge part in Bolton's history as an industrial town.
This picture shows the North-west end of Bolton Station, which was rebuilt in 1871. The locomotive shown is a Yates 2.4.0, as built at Miles Platting in 1869. The Bolton and Manchester Railway was one of the world's first railways, and was opened on May 29 1828.
