A MOTORIST was taken to hospital by air ambulance following a two-car crash in Atherton.
The helicopter crew was scrambled after firefighters cut one of the motorists from the wreckage of his car.
Part of Wigan Road, between its junction with Lovers Lane and the roundabout at Atherleigh Way, was closed by police as emergency services dealt with the accident.
It happened just after 12.15pm on Saturday and involved a Fiat and Vauxhall Vectra.
Firefighters spent nearly 30 minutes cutting a 35-year-old man free. He suffered from neck and leg injuries and was put on a spinal board and taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital.
The female driver of the other vehicle was unhurt.
Crew Manager of Hindley Fire Station Russ Condon said: "The spot where the collision took place is an accident blackspot and I would ask drivers to take extra care."
