THE funeral of a teenager who died after being knocked down on a motorway will be held next Tuesday.
Sean Green, aged 17, was hit by a car as he tried to cross the M61 between Horwich and Westhoughton late at night.
He died at Hope Hospital, in Salford, on March 14, three days after suffering extensive head injuries in the accident.
A funeral for the trainee mechanic has been arranged at Sacred Heart Church in Lord Street, Westhoughton.
Scores of friends and former classmates will be among mourners. Pupils are being allowed to leave lessons at St Joseph's RC High School in Horwich, where Sean was a former pupil, and youngsters from Sacred Heart Primary School will line Central Drive as the cortege passes.
The teenager's devastated family - parents Michael and Sheila and brothers Martin, aged 15, and Stuart, aged 18 - will lead a funeral procession to the church from their home in Whitsundale.
The procession will leave at 12.40pm and the service will begin at 1pm.
Chris Green, Sean's uncle, said: "His parents have been very heartened by the number of messages of support that they have received from people who knew him.
"A lot of his friends wanted to be part of the procession and they will follow the family from their home to the church."
The 39-year-old driver of the Fiat Punto which hit Sean in the early hours of Sunday March 11 was not injured.
