A BUS company is calling on Bolton Council to take action over a new road layout following a rush hour crash.

A silver Ford Focus was trapped under a First bus in Bradford Road, Farnworth, at around 8am on Wednesday.

No-one was injured in the accident, but the woman driver of the car, who was in her mid 40s, was left shaken by the ordeal.

Bolton Council has built a chicane in Lavender Road, where the bus was turning, which has made it difficult for long vehicles to navigate the bend.

A spokesman for First said: "Changes have been made to the junction which have caused constriction and we are talking to Bolton Council Highways department about the problems this has caused."

Ron Davies, aged 52, witnessed the accident. He said: "I travel on this road two or three times a day and I think it is an accident waiting to happen.

"When the buses turn the back swings out into the oncoming traffic.

"The car got trapped under the bus and people went to help. Fortunately the woman was OK, but I'm sure that someone could be killed there if something is not done about it."

Bolton Council was unavailable for comment.
