IN a highly competitive field featuring some of the strongest clubs in the North-west, Burnden Roadrunners Vets team achieved a creditable 13th place overall out of 45 teams in last weekend's Haigh Hall Relays.
In the veterans class, however, the Burnden team all ran at their best to claim second prize .
With strong legs from Paul Christie (24:25), Andy Staveley (22:42), Martyn Pollitt (23:33) and Andy Duffy (22:55), Burnden Roadrunners Vets completed the event in 1:33:55 to finish in second spot behind the newly merged Blackpool Wyre and Fylde club.
Burnden also fielded a second team in the competition who finished in a respectable 23rd place.
The team of John Knowles (22:26), Alan Worthington (25:52), Neil Critchley (26:33) and Chris Greenall (25:13) completed the testing course in a total time of 1:39:54.In addition to team success, there were also individual achievements as Andy Staveley, Andy Duffy and Martyn Pollitt recorded the fourth, fifth and ninth fastest times of the day in the veterans competition.
Andy Staveley and Andy Duffy were the fastest veteran runners on their respective stages, and Martyn Pollitt recorded the second fastest time on his leg.
