A STUDENT with ambitions to set up her own plumbing business has won a top apprentice award for the second year running.
Samantha Calvert has been named has been named Best Apprentice by Bolton Community College.
Samantha, aged 21, is on a four year Achieving Construction Excellence heating and plumbing apprentice scheme and is studying for her NVQ Level Three. Sponsored by PTS Plumbing, Durose & Gourlay and Achieving Construction Excellence, the award is an annual opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Bolton apprentices.
Samantha is a school leaver from Thornleigh Salesian College, and works for social housing contractor Connaught. She is training to be a heating and ventilation engineer.
She said: "Fixing a toilet was never high on my agenda. But since I've been on the apprenticeship, I'm absolutely certain it's the right career for me,"
Paul Cragg, Head of ACE, added: "Sam has worked consistently hard both at work and at college. She has shown dedication to her course and has even attended additional classes to improve her skills."
Connaught is currently supporting 12 apprentices through ACE Training Services.
