THREE mums have scaled the heights for charity.

Emma Warburton, Julie Holroyd and Lesley Hopkinson have raised £10,000 for Bolton Lads and Girls Club after completing a 20,000ft climb up Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

The group left England on March 1 and reached the summit on March 8 after trekking overnight.

Mother-of-two Emma, pictured, is a teacher at Canon Slade School. She said: "The last day was the toughest. We had to get up at 11.30pm and walk all night to reach the summit. It's safer to walk at night as the ground is more solid.

Emma, aged 42, added: "When we reached the top it was as if we'd stepped into Narnia - all you could see was snow and glaciers. It was an incredible experience and we want to thank everyone for their support."

The sponsorship money will go towards the club's Independance Fund, which provides support for physically disabled members or those with special needs Emma is married to Ross Warburton, executive director of the bakers Warburton's and president of the Lads and Girls Club; Lesley is married to businessman Nick Hopkinson, who received an MBE this year for his charity work, while Julie's husband Bill is chairman of the Lads and Girls Club as well as head of his own investment company.
