A TEENAGE yob has been banned from drinking at every pub in Bolton - just days before he turns 18.

Christopher Sharples was already the subject of an anti-social behaviour order banning him from using bad language or intimidating members of the public.

But the teenager, who lives in Ennerdale Avenue, Breightmet, repeatedly breached the terms imposed on him and was taken back to court by police.

Bolton Magistrates' Court banned him from drinking in any park, road, street or building in the borough to which the public has access.

It means he will not be allowed to toast his 18th birthday - on Friday, March 30 - with his first legal drink in a pub.

Sharples is the first person in Bolton to be banned from drinking in the town's pubs under the terms of an Asbo.

Insp Tony Kenyon, of Bolton Police, said: "Christopher Sharples is part of a larger group of youngsters who have been responsible for serious nuisance in the Breightmet area.

"Although he was made the order of an Asbo last year, he continued to misbehave and we reviewed his order and asked the courts to make changes to it.

"Residents and businesses in that area deserve to be able to go about their lives in peace and we won't tolerate the likes of Sharples or anybody else ruining that."

Sharples and up to 40 other youths gathered at spots notorious for underage drinking and nuisance and drank in public, threw missiles at vehicles and intimidated shopkeepers and customers when he tried to buy alcohol.

Sharples was made the subject of an Asbo by Bolton magistrates last year, but returned to court last Friday when magistrates extended the terms of the order.

He is now banned from the areas around Milnthorpe Road, a parade of shops on Kentmere Road, parts of Padbury Way and Greenroyd Avenue and the area of shops close to Bargain Booze in Bury Road.

The orders means he could be arrested for threatening or using violence or using abusive or threatening language towards any person.

If he breaches his Asbo, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.

One shopkeeper in the area said: "He's a little idiot. He's goes into shops drunk and starts terrorising shoppers. It can be any time of the day.

"There's a gang of them and they stand in shop doorways for up to two hours making people feel uncomfortable."

Another person on the estate said: "They drink outside our local shops all night. They urinate around the front of the shops and it scares people from going in."

Another resident called for CCTV to be installed to ensure the offenders were identified. "The whole gang needs Asbos, not just one of them," she added.

Anybody who sees Sharples breaching his Asbo should contact police on 0161 856 5761.
