STORES will open at midnight on Thursday as the PlayStation 3 goes on sale.

Queues are set to form outside game shops to allow people to pick up the long-awaited console.

It is being dubbed the 'biggest video games console launch ever'.

The PlayStation 3, with a £425 price tag, has been attracting many pre-orders.

And although most have sold this way, there are still some available with major retailers advising customers to call them.

A spokesman for GameStation, which has a branch on Newport Street, Bolton, said: "Pre-orders have been amazing."
