Detectives have been granted further time to quiz two men over the murder of stab victim Keith Platt.
The pair, aged 19 and 20, were arrested on Friday night after 30-year-old Mr Platt was knifed on Market Street, Farnworth.
Magistrates have granted police more time and they have until midnight to question the pair.
Mr Platt and his half brother, Tony Callaghan, were involved in a fight with a group of men near the Post Office pub at 11.15pm.
A passing police patrol, which witnessed the attack, found Mr Platt bleeding heavily and he was taken to hospital but later died.
Keith's mother, Julie Fitzsimmons, said: "Keith was a bubbly, friendly lad. He was a true gentleman who was loved by all who knew him.
"The people responsible for Keith's death have not only taken his life, but also mine and other family members. It has left a massive void in our closely-knit family and his whole circle of friends will miss him terribly."
An 18-year-old man who was arrested has been released on police bail.
Anybody with further information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 5740 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
