FIREFIGHTERS took time out from dousing flames to help raise money for a charity close to their hearts.
White watch crew used their hoses on dirty cars instead when they turned Bolton Central Fire Station into a drive-through car wash.
The 11-strong crew, based in Moor Lane, Bolton, washed cars in return for a donation, with all the money going to the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund.
Station officer Dave Pimblett said: "We were busy all day and the people of Bolton have been very generous. One driver gave us a £20 donation.
He added: "The benevolent fund helps and supports the families of firefighters who have been injured. There are firefighters in Bolton who have been helped by the fund."
The event, which was sponsored by Morrisons, Halfords, Sainsbury's and Motor Clinic, raised £450.50.
