A SECURITY guard had a lucky escape after a candle set light to the caravan where he was sleeping.
The 28-year-old from Farnworth was treated at the Royal Bolton Hospital after breathing in smoke from the fire.
The blaze spread to two scrap cars and a metal storage container at the Any Spares site at Jackson Street, Farnworth, when fire broke out at 8.30am yesterday.
Farnworth fire station watch manager Ian Ainsworth said: "He got out in time and was okay but he was very lucky.
"There was no electricity in the caravan and the candle was his only source of light.
"Fortunately he was woken by the smoke. We are warning people about using candles in the home all the time but when you're in something like a caravan it's especially important."
