Evergreen Manchester United star Ryan Giggs is feeling fitter than ever.

The 33-year-old has been confirmed as the Barclays Premiership player of the month for February after a series of outstanding performances, culminating in his goalscoring contribution to United's crucial away win at Fulham.

Giggs' form is a major reason why the Red Devils remain in contention for a repeat of their historic 1999 treble-winning campaign.

And, as he prepares to line up against another veteran Welshman tomorrow in Bolton's Gary Speed, the winger has confirmed his body is holding up to the strain pretty well.

"I feel fit and well," he said.

"The hardest thing for me is recovering when you have so many games in such a short space of time as we have at the moment.

"But fitness-wise, during the games, I feel as good as I have ever done."

Giggs only has to look at Speed for inspiration as he wonders how long he has left in the game.

His former international team-mate is still going strong at 37, and Giggs knows if he can emulate that achievement he will eclipse Sir Bobby Charlton's Red Devils appearance record of 759.

Now second in United's all-time list with 701, Giggs has never been one to spend too much time pondering records and achievements.

And, while he admits to following Speed's lead in keeping his fitness levels high, Giggs is reluctant to say how long he intends to keep playing.

"Gary Speed has been brilliant again this season," he said.

"He still plays the majority of games and is hardly ever injured. He is someone young players can follow in terms of looking after themselves.

"I have tried to look after myself as well. We will just see where it takes me."

With so many strikers missing, Giggs is set to be pressed into service as an emergency forward alongside Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford tomorrow as United look to consolidate their six-point lead at the Premiership summit.

Although Bolton are no strangers to victory at Old Trafford, where they won in 2001 and 2002, the Red Devils have won six of the last seven meetings between the sides, including a four-goal triumph at the Reebok Stadium earlier this season, when Wayne Rooney bagged a hat-trick.

By common consent, the first half hour of that win represented the peak of United's performances over the past few seasons and Giggs is hoping for a repeat.

"That first 30 minutes was the best we have played all season," confirmed Giggs.

"We slackened off a bit in the second half but that was to be expected because the first half was brilliant.

"They had not been beaten at home and hardly conceded any goals but we scored twice very early and could have had a few more."
