AFTER choosing to complete her training at Bolton Hospice, student nurse Alex Linster is urging people to get behind The Bolton News Garden of Tranquillity appeal and raise the final few thousand pounds.
For the final year of her nursing degree at Salford University, Miss Linster has opted to complete her training at the hospice as she hopes to work with terminally ill patients when she is qualified.
She has been inspired by her time at the hospice and wants to see facilities improved even further for patients.
Miss Linster said: "The hospice isn't at all what people think it might be like. It's a really happy place. I would urge people to really get behind this appeal."
So far, more than £90,000 has been raised towards the appeal's £100,000 target.
Currently, most of the hospice grounds, which have not been renovated since it opened almost 15 years ago, are covered in grass, meaning there is no disabled access.
Patio areas have cracked, broken and uneven paving stones and the borders are sparsely planted.
Under the new plans, paths will be created, so that people in wheelchairs and those using Zimmer frames can use the gardens, and private seating areas will be built where patients can spend quality time with their loved ones.
A sensory garden and water feature will also be created.
If you want to make a donation, you can use the Gift Aid coupon on this page.
Cheques and postal orders should be made payable to Bolton Hospice and can be returned to The Bolton News, Newspaper House, Churchgate, Bolton, BL1 1DE. They should be clearly marked for the Garden of Tranquillity appeal.
