A FATHER who subjected his girlfriend to domestic violence has escaped a prison sentence.
Craig Brightwell, aged 28, of Marlbrook Drive, Westhoughton, assaulted Melanie Thornton while the couple's three children were in the home that they shared.
Bolton magistrates yesterday heard that Miss Thornton suffered injuries to her eyes after being pushed by Brightwell on December 11, 2006. He had been drinking.
Brightwell - who has previous convictions for domestic violence against the same victim - pleaded guilty to a count of common assault.
He was given a four month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to carry-out 150 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay £100 costs and £80 compensation to Miss Thornton.
