ONE of Bolton's largest and longest established construction companies has had one of its schemes recognised with an award from Manchester City Council.
G&J Seddon, which is part of the Seddon Group on the Edge Fold Industrial Estate near Farnworth, was handed one of Manchester's Built in Quality Awards. Seddon's work on 23 houses and 12 flats for the Tung Sing Housing Association was one of just 11 construction projects to receive an award, from more than 2,700 inspected over the past year.
G&J Seddon has been responsible for the design and construction of all 35 properties at Fairy Lane in Cheetham Hill, together with all associated footpaths, car parking, external works, drainage and incoming services. The project is part of the third and fourth phases of the development which has seen Seddons working with the Association for more than five years. The project has been inspected throughout the construction period by Manchester City Council's Building Control Surveyors and, they said, "Demonstrated excellent practices in all areas of construction throughout".
All projects are judged against the national Built In Quality standards which include criteria such as site safety, fire safety, use of materials and sound insulation. The project at Fairy Lane also benefited from G&J Seddon's approach to waste management as the company commits to recycling 90 per cent of its construction waste, all of which is brought to its own waste recycling centre located adjacent to the company's headquarters building.
Said Richard Cowell, Manchester's assistant executive member for planning and the environment, who presented the awards, said: "The Built in Quality Awards have become synonymous with the very best of building in Manchester.
"The vital contribution of builders and contractors is often overlooked when accolades are given out.
"I hope this award will inspire all those working in the city's construction industry to new heights."
Jonathan Seddon, Construction Director at G&J Seddon added: "It is a real honour to receive this award as it recognises our commitment to quality and the work of our site team.
"It demonstrates that we have achieved excellent construction standards during the course of the building project as well as a high level of customer satisfaction."
