NURSERY owner Janet Lomax-Baker has become Bolton's first Early Years Professional.
The 49-year-old, who is principal at Croft House Nursery in Horwich, joins only a small number of people who have achieved the title in the UK.
The status - equivalent in level to a qualified teacher - is part of a government drive to improve standards of those working with children.
Janet had to go through a rigorous assessment process and demonstrate that she met graduate-level standards.
Janet, who also works for the council as a part-time early years support teacher, said: "I always like a challenge and I like to be involved in any new initiatives as I am passionate about early years.
"I welcomed the opportunity to prove that I was achieving all the standards by gaining this status."
Anyone interested in gaining the status can contact Janet Birchall, Early Start Training and Development Co-ordinator, at Bolton Council on 01204 332745.
