WHEN someone you know spends time in hospital, it is inevitable that the subject of food will crop up.
Hospital food has undoubtedly improved over the years - but can you guarantee that your friend or relative is receiving any in the first place?
Concern has been expressed that many elderly people, and those incapable of feeding themselves, are missing meals during hospital stays.
The Royal Bolton Hospital has introduced special trays to ensure that those who need assistance at meal times are given help and it has also introduced a ban on visitors at mealtimes.
Though these initiatives may appear minor, the hospital is to be congratulated for what is undoubtedly a move in the right direction.
