Atherton Town 3 Leigh Athletic 0 Atherton Town clinched a place in the final of the Manchester League Gylgryst Cup with a fine win over local rivals Leigh Athletic.
The Howe Bridge outfit got off to a cracking start with Phil Hornby firing home on five minutes. Athletic always looked dangerous, especially from set pieces, but the Town defence was superbly marshalled by Leighton Packaging man-of-the-match Jimmy McMullen.
With 15 minutes remaining Hornby got a second with a superb individual effort and in the dying moments Mark Parry was brought down but took full advantage with a converted penalty.
