Police investigating an assault in Wigan town centre that has left a Lithuanian man fighting for his life in hospital, say they are looking for two men and a woman in connection with the incident.
The 37-year-old victim was with two friends near to Debenhams on Standishgate in the early hours of Sunday, when he was attacked after asking a man for a cigarette.
The victim went to the Wigan Royal Infirmary with a serious head injury. He was later transferred to Hope Hospital where he remains in a critical and unstable condition.
One of his friends was punched in the attack but only sustained minor injuries.
One of the men is described as white, 20-25-years-old, of medium build, with short dark hair. The other man is described as white, 20-22-years-old, of medium build, with short dark hair. The woman is described as white and in her early 20s.
Detective Inspector Steve Crimmins from Wigan CID said: "This man is still fighting for his life in hospital and I am determined to find whoever is responsible for his injuries.
"I am confident that it is only a matter of time before we identify the offenders, and I would urge them to come forward sooner rather than later.
"I would also encourage anyone who saw the incident or the group in that area at about 2am to contact Wigan CID on 0161 856 5307.
"Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
