A WORKMAN was airlifted to hospital after he was crushed by a lamppost.

The 43-year-old is believed to have been working on the lamppost in Mount Pleasant, Adlington, when it toppled over at 12.05pm on Friday.

The North West Air Ambulance was called to the scene and the man was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital suffering from head and spinal injuries.

He had suffered broken verterbrae but his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

The incident is being investigated by the Health and Safety Executive.
