LEIGH Air Training Corps are flying high after recruiting a new adult member.

Tracy Jacobs joined the squadron after reading an appeal for more adult volunteers, and is now looking forward to a host of exciting challenges from flying and gliding to the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.

Tracy is delighted to be part of the ATC and is looking forward to working with the "Next Gener-ation".

She said: "This is a great opportunity for me to repay all the hard work that adult volunteers gave in order for me to take part in numerous activities as a child.

"By volunteering I hope to give young people of today the courage, confidence and inspiration to achieve their potential and personal goals. Groups such as the ATC give both young people and their community the opportunity to come together for a common goal, increasing and strengthening the community spirit and empowering young people to take hold of their future."

Adult volunteers, uniformed or civilian, have a crucial role in the organisation. Without them the Corps could not offer the vast range of activities it does and as well as helping cadets realise their potential, adult staff can also gain valuable academic qualifications and leadership skills which are valued by employers.

Air Commodore Jon Chitty said: "We give our cadets the opportunity to gain self-confidence and develop strong personal qualities, while taking part in exciting and challenging activities.

"The activities and opportunities available are impressive and many cadets take control of an aircraft before they drive a car!"
