A GREYHOUND owner has started a petition to open a race track in Bolton.
Irene Halpin has already received 2,000 signatures, but will this be enough to persuade some entrepreneur to risk money on funding such a stadium?
We sympathise with her plea that travelling to Belle Vue Greyhound Racing Track is inconvenient but it has to be said that the previous greyhound race track at Raikes Park, off Manchester Road, closed through lack of patrons only 11 years ago.
Even Ron Eccles, the owner of the one remaining track in this area in Westhoughton, says the sport is dying.
So while it is laudable for Mrs Halpin to campaign for a new track in Bolton, sadly the demand for the sport may not be there.
