THE award-winning Wingates Band has announced a concert to celebrate the centenary of a spectacular achievement.
The brass band were declared "the finest band in the land" after winning top accolades two years running 100 years ago.
The Westhoughton band, which formed in 1873, won the "double double" - the British Open Championship and the British National Championship - in 1906 and 1907.
On Saturday, March 31, the band will give a Spring Spectacular concert, at Bolton's Victoria Hall, to celebrate.
They will perform alongside female vocal group, The Cheshire Chord Company, who recently received radio airplay for their version of chart-toppers The Kaiser Chiefs' I Predict A Riot.
