A VICIOUS rapist who filmed himself attacking his victim on his mobile phone has been jailed for 12 years after a re-trial.
Jon Leaver was convicted 18 months ago and had received a 14-year sentence, but the Court of Appeal ruled that the conviction was unsafe and ordered a retrial.
Liverpool Crown Court heard that after raping the woman, aged 19, whom he had been walking home, Leaver repeatedly punched her in the face smashing her jaw.
The attack was captured on CCTV security cameras.
At the end of the retrial this week, Judge Nigel Gilmour, QC, jailed Leaver, aged 24, of Mayfield Street, Leigh, for six years for the rape and six years to run consecutively for causing grievous bodily harm. Leaver had denied rape but admitted the other offence.
The court heard that Leaver met the woman in Barbarella's nightclub in Leigh and they left together in the early hours of February 20, 2005.
They were seen on a half-hour compilation CCTV tape kissing in the bus station.
They walked to a secluded area behind the Spinning Gate shopping centre and they began having sex, which he filmed on his mobile phone.
Jurors then saw him pinning the woman over the wall. He pulled her head back by her hair and grabbed her around the throat while she tried to push him away.
Leaver claimed sex had been consensual.
He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register.
