THE baby girl whose life was saved by a trainee firefighter when she stopped breathing has made a full recovery.
Little Ruby Fallingham, who celebrates her first birthday next week, was on her way home from hospital with her family on Wednesday afternoon when she became ill.
Firefighter Ian Nicholson, aged 29, pictured, was cycling to work at Bolton Central fire station when he spotted Ruby's distressed grandmother and mother in Newbrook Road, Over Hulton.
He managed to revive Ruby and made sure an ambulance had been called before heading to the station to start his shift.
Ruby's mother, Lorna Smith, of Mealhouse Lane, Atherton, said: "It was very frightening but Ian was brilliant. He was cool, calm and just took over."
Ruby was admitted to the Royal Bolton Hospital overnight for observation but has now made a full recovery.
Bolton Central watch manager Kevin O'Connor said he would be recommending Ian for a commendation.
