RESIDENTS are being given a bigger say on how extra money for road repairs in their areas is spent.
Councillors at Bolton Council's budget meeting approved an additional £100,000 for maintenance projects which will be shared across the borough's nine area forums.
The forums had already each been given a share of £196,000 to spend on smaller scale road improvements.
Members of the public can take part in the forum meetings and their comments will be considered before the forums decide which roads need the most urgent attention.
Schemes could include resurfacing, repairs to footpaths and making roadside verges more attractive and safer.
Cllr Rosa Kay, the council's executive member with responsibility for area working, said: "Giving the forums extra money to spend on repairs and improvements is an idea which we think makes sense.
"Local people know best where there are problems as they probably walk past or drive over them on a daily basis.
Suggestions for repairs or improvements can also be emailed to areaworking@bolton.gov.uk.
People can find out more by attending area forum meetings or contacting the area working team on 01204 331252.
