FILLED with frisky flappers and dashing leading men, Thoroughly Modern Millie, the next production from the award-winning St Philip's AODS, is a high-spirited musical romp that has all of New York dancing the Charleston.
Set in 1922 New York City, the story is of young Millie Dillmount, a small-town girl from Kansas, who finds herself in the Big Apple wishing to become "thoroughly modern" by marrying for money instead of love. She meets fun-but-poor Jimmy while starting to work for pompous-but-rich Trevor Graydon and Millie decides it is Mr Graydon she must marry.
With witty sub-plots and a variety of characters, there is never a dull moment before Millie finally gets her man - but which one?
It's a New York full of intrigue and jazz; a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behaviour were changing forever.
The marvellous music, dazzling dancing and loads of laughs make this bright and sparkling show one not to be missed.
Staged at St Philip's church hall, Bridgeman Street, Bolton, it runs from March 12 to 17. For tickets call 01204 64035.
