A COMMUNITY campaigner is ready to throw in the towel after battling to keep her market business alive.
Joyce Jones has led a campaign against Bolton Council plans which could see Westhoughton Market close for up to 18 months for renovation.
The current building would be demolished and rebuilt by a private company, with flats above a new market hall.
Twelve traders at the hall in Market Street have fought the plans for more than a year and gathered 600 signatures for a petition.
Mrs Jones, who runs the market cafe and Good 4 Two lingerie stall, said: "We've lost heart. We feel we're not being listened to and I'm looking to sell up my businesses. I can't afford to run them because we're not getting the customers."
A council spokesman has confirmed that negotiations are still continuing with developers Melrose.
She said: "Council members have given the go-ahead to continue negotiations with Melrose on the proposed development.
"Discussions are ongoing and we are looking at the best way of helping traders continue trading if the redevelopment goes ahead. A decision is expected in the coming weeks."
