Tributes were paid today to a 66-year-old man who died in hospital after being hit by a car in Walkden.

Jack Farrell, of Parsonage Road, Walkden, was crossing Bolton Road at 2pm on Saturday when the collision occurred.

He was treated at the scene and then taken to Hope Hospital, where he died later that evening.

Christine Farrell, Jack's wife, said: "Jack was a loving caring husband, father to Vanessa and Louise, loving grandfather of Christopher, Richard and Nicola and father-in-law to Paul and David. He was much loved by his family and friends, too many to mention.

"Jack was a true gentleman, we will love him always and never forget him for a day. He will always be in our thoughts, day and night.

"Jack, you were loved so much, you will never know just how much. You brightened our day with your lovely smile, your sense of humour, but most of all because you were the heart of our family."

Anybody who witnessed this incident is asked to contact the Area 4 Road Policing Unit on 0161 856 7781.
